We're planning a weekend trip to Gulf Hagas, the so-called Grand Canyon of the East. We're trying to get a rough idea of who's interested so we can book a campground with enough space. We can get a smaller primitive campground at Gulf Hagas that will sleep about 20 ... or a group camping site around Moosehead. We'll be travelling in September so the foliage should be great. And the hike is beautiful! Anyone interested?
Duff & I (and maybe Diane) are definitely interested. Diane and I have done the hike before, in Sept. also, and it is spectacular!!
ReplyDeleteGreat! Thanks for checking out our blog ... and posting a comment. We're hoping everyone enjoys this.
ReplyDeleteWould you guys prefer the primtive camp site at Gulf Hagas or a group site like Lily Bay State Park?
I haven't ever done the hike, even growing up in the area. There is a commercial campground on Upper Joe-Mary Lake on RTE 11 going toward Millinocket that might be closer. I wouldn't be camping overnight.
ReplyDeleteand do we have a date yet for the Gulf Hagas trip?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the campground suggestion, Barb. Sandy and I are going to line up the camping area this week so we'll add it to our list. The dates for the outing are: Sept. 25-27, with the Gulf Hagas hike on Saturday, Sept. 26. We're looking into other hiking or canoe possibilities for Friday or Sunday if anyone wants to make a long weekend of it.
ReplyDeleteI think I would prefer a group site, not the primitive camp site. It would be easier to do another activity on Friday or Sunday, like you suggested, maybe kayaking.
